At SERVPRO of Des Moines NW we know that even the smallest of fires can disrupt families and keep them out of their homes for weeks if not months. It's important to know about different types of fires and the impact they can have, not only on the home but on personal property including laundry, electronics and furniture.
As a fire burns the hot smoke will move to cooler sections of the home and leave soot and that distinct smoke smell throughout the structure and on contents.
There are of course, different categories of fire depending on the material that fueled the fire and they will generate different types of smoke. These different types of smoke can play a major role in the restoration process and what types of cleaning is needed.
The burning of rubber or plastic items will typically result in a wet smoke. The attributes associated with wet smoke residue are a strong odor, sticky soot and smoke webbing.
The burning of paper and wood items will typically result in a dry smoke. The attributes associated with dry smoke residue are more evenly distributed soot due to high temperatures fast burning material producing smoke that rises quickly.
Protein Fires will produce residue that is more difficult to see but contains an extremely strong odor.
At SERVPRO of Des Moines NW we know that every fire is unique and will result in unique needs for our customers. We will determine the source of the fire and the type of smoke and soot. We use this information to determine the proper cleaning procedure and move forward with a plan to restore the home and it's contents to pre loss conditions.
